Description: In the summer of 2022, Pakistan experienced devastating floods, with over 2 million homes damaged, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan. As the displaced residents faced an uncertain future, we embarked on a research and design initiative to develop sustainable, low-cost building practices for the flood-affected rural communities. By closely studying the impact of the floods, vernacular building techniques, and the socio-cultural and climatic context, we collaborated with the local community to design model houses. These designs blended traditional adobe construction methods with reinforced concrete (RCC) elements, ensuring both durability and a strong cultural connection. The aim was to create dignified, stable structures that resonate with local practices, providing a resilient solution for future flooding events.
