Description: Gharo Country Homes is a farmhouse society designed with a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment facility, located just a couple of hours from Karachi. This project aims to provide a sustainable living solution for Karachi residents seeking retirement or a weekend retreat. Through a comprehensive site analysis, the program was developed to respond to sustainability across multiple frameworks. Socially, the design promotes employment and cultural opportunities for local farmers and residents. Architecturally, the homes utilize sustainable materials like compressed earth bricks, which offer excellent insulation without burning fossil fuels. The infrastructure incorporates smart energy generation and water reuse systems. Inspired by vernacular archetypes, the design features courtyards, arches, and jalis, expressed in raw, unplastered brick. The entertainment and sports facility, designed to attract large footfall, includes an iconic mosque, gyms, various indoor and outdoor games, and a large café and restaurant, with pedestrian movement and community farming celebrated throughout.
